Snowfest is a week long winter carnival high in the Sierra Nevada mountains on the shores of North Lake Tahoe. The festival includes 50-60 events throughout the North Tahoe and Truckee region. The events include a torchlight parade, a laser show, fireworks, a couple of parades, pancake breakfasts, concerts, bar parties, ski races, dog pulls, ice-cream eating contest, a winter luau, a Mardi Gras party, ice carving, a polar bear swim and many more. The festival comes during a time when many people don't realize that Tahoe is enjoying world renowned spring ski conditions. How about a vacation in North Lake Tahoe?
Lake Tahoe sits high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, roughly 40 miles West of Reno Nevada and 150 miles from Sacramento California. At 22 miles long, 12 miles wide, and rimed by snow covered mountains, Lake Tahoe makes for a spectacular vacation during any season.
During the winter visitors enjoy the variety of over a dozen local ski areas. Northstar at Tahoe is well loved for their family friendly environment. Exceptional grooming ensures that the ski runs are buffed and ready each morning. Northstar is currently putting in a lot of effort on their village. The base has added an ice skating area with a number of fire pits to lounge around. Cross country skiing, sleigh rides, snow shoeing, and snow mobile tours round off the list of Tahoe's other winter activities.
Summer brings more visitors to the North Lake Tahoe area due to the warm temperatures in the valleys and the surrounding cities of Sacramento and Reno. The temperatures at Lake Tahoe typically stay in the mid 70s to low 80s. There's hiking, mountain biking, beaches, parks, and plenty of lake side restaurants to relax at. Sunnyside is a restaurant on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. The restaurant has a large deck that sits on the edge of the lake. It's definitely a great place to get a bite to eat while enjoying the sunset over the lake.
